I'll admit, I was struggling to continue gitting gud here.

It's also a fight that kinda encapsulates the issue with trying to keep series veterans challenged, as each game keeps trying to one up the previous ones we arrive at bosses packing three health bars/unique phases to do all in one swoop. I think I've said my piece on Friede enough on here lol, I stand by her coming across like the zenith of Dark Souls 3 identity crisis between being more of the slower souls style and dipping into faster Bloodborne antics, Friede goes so ham by the end it's like they forgot that there are other builds than dodge rolling and no regain system. It very much felt like simply "here's more stuff I guess" and I suppose I was hoping for a bit more after DS2 bounced itself back with three areas of DLC that were rather distinct in adding unifying concepts to each area and some kind of greater overarching objective that facilitated the exploration. You know, I like Dark Souls 3 but I have to admit, that DLC left me cold *gets pelted with dung pies*īut really, while I liked bits of Ashes, I struggle to recall many individual areas from it being all that noteworthy, something like village of the clawmen, hills of the clubbers and pit of the god damn gross flies. Was your experience with this DLC similar to mine or not? I really hope Ringed City is better than this one. The fight is superchaotic (especially the second phase), too long, some attacks are really hard to telegraph, not to mention the final phase.

I think a well-designed boss fight is the one in which you spend some tries first, in order to learn the mechanics and attacks and you finally beat the enemy because you know how it behaves. When I beat it, after a few tries, I didn´t feel happy or satisfied, like in previous encounters, cause I wasn´t sure I deserved to win. What can I say about this? I am having a hard time accepting this is not a boss fight designed to make players suffer per se. The dude looks like an NPC invader you can find anywhere else in the game and the battle also reuses enemies from the area around. Boss fights: the one with the dude and the wolves below the colisseum is just bad.

The prime example of this is the final room full of flies. I also thought, in these games, they were smartly placed around the maps. They are no fun to fight, they are too strong (those viking guys, for example) or they are too weak (wolves/flies). I get this may be in the DNA of the series somehow, but in the case of this DLC it is something really really blatant. Enemies: they are there just to bother you. Not to mention the location is at times just ugly to look at. Level design: I found it really uninspired, with many dead-ends and with really intricate sections (the one after the village in the snow particularly), that were no fun to explore. Let me say what I didn´t like about it, that funnily enough, I think it is what usually makes these games great: Just before beating the final boss of the game I decided to dive in the DLCs so I started Ashes of Ariandel.

I dunno if I tend to overpower my character, but well, that´s another story.

This summer I started playing Dark Souls III, and while I enjoyed mi time with it, I started to notice once you know how to play these games, when you know the drill to say, you play them like "you have already been there" with a memory-muscle at full force, because let´s be honest here, these games all play the same (more or less, of course).

I liked the more action-focused approach and I really was challenged by the DLC bosses, to end up beating them.

One of the best PS4 games hands-down and one with the best atmosphere ever. Then my second game in this series was Bloodborne. I finished the DLC included in the game as well. I liked the level design above all, and how it was all connected. I started with Dark Souls Remastered on Switch and wow, it was such a demanding but rewarding experience. My experience with the Soulsborne "series" has been quite a pleasant one.
